Your questions, answered

What is NEA Complimentary Life Insurance?

NEA Complimentary Life Insurance is life and AD&D insurance guaranteed to active, staff, reserve and life members at no cost to you. Student members are not covered. Coverage is automatic; however, members are encouraged to register a beneficiary with NEA Member Benefits.

Why should I register my beneficiary?

Registering your beneficiary will ensure that the benefit amount is paid to the family member or person you stipulate. Having a beneficiary also makes it easier to expedite payment in the event of a tragedy. If you do not select a beneficiary, at your death the benefit will be paid to the first surviving beneficiary listed in the following order: surviving spouse; surviving children; surviving parents; surviving siblings; your estate.

How do I register my beneficiary?

It’s easy. You can register online at the NEA Member Benefits website or call the Member Advocacy Center at 1-800-637-4636 Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. ET.

Since the inception of the program, $27.5 million has been paid out to members.

Another important part of NEA Complimentary Life Insurance coverage is the homicide benefit. NEA Complimentary Life Insurance pays up to $150,000 when an unlawful homicide takes the life of a member while on the job.

Do funds from my NEA membership dues pay for NEA Complimentary Life Insurance coverage?
