The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs has launched a website where former students of Heald College can request copies of their transcripts.
An official with the state’s Hawaii Post-secondary Education Authorization Program, or HPEAP, said the new online service can be accessed at hpeap.ehawaii.gov/hpeap/home.html.
The service costs $10.
“We are pleased to introduce this new streamlined option for former students to request their transcripts,” said Bobbi Lum-Mew, HPEAP program administrator, in a statement Friday. “Many of those affected by the closure of Heald College are still dealing with the challenges and uncertainties caused by the school closure. It is our hope that the public finds the online ordering system to be quick and convenient, especially for those who no longer reside in Hawaii.”
In April, Heald’s parent, Corinthian College, announced that it was ceasing operations at its Kapiolani Boulevard campus and its other 30 locations, affecting 16,000 students nationwide.
The Honolulu Heald College transcript system was created in partnership with Hawaii Information Consortium LLC, the official internet portal manager of eHawaii.gov.
Last summer Heald’s parent company began selling off or winding down its schools after federal regulators cut off its access to student loans and accused the for-profit company of altering students’ grades and falsifying graduates’ job placement claims.
On April 14 the U.S. Department of Education announced it was fining the company $30 million for misleading consumers by misrepresenting job placement rates to students within the Heald system.
About 1,700 students attended the Honolulu school. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the school had 90 faculty members — 33 of them full time — in the fall of 2013.
